My name is Sophia Yu and I am so excited to be a part of this task force working to address the basic needs of the AANHPI community. I am a first-year pre-sociology major here at UCSB, and am passionate about understanding the history and lived experiences of AANHPI peoples. I am originally from Charlottesville, Virginia, where I led my local high school’s club of Asian American students, completed an independent study on AANHPI history, and was a student panelist on a UVA board of teachers on diverse teaching. I am extremely eager to see the ways that this task force can help to better understand the and serve the needs of AANHPI students here at UCSB. Additionally, one fun fact about me is that I consistently believe that I will spot a celebrity when in downtown Santa Barbara or on the 101!
