Westmont College is involved in a community food project to bring together stakeholders from the distinct parts of the food system and to foster understanding of national food security trends and how they might improve local food systems. Westmont faculty and student research assistants will develop survey questions for current practices, analyze collected data on participant interviews, and present the research in 2019, culminating in a published work of implemented strategies on the multiple Santa Barbara area campuses. The community based research encourages the self-sufficiency of individuals’ basic needs security after providing an all embracing long term solution to enhance community knowledge on food access.
