I am Nioshi Shah, a second year PhD student in the Department of Sociology at UCSB. I am from India and my research focuses on the reproduction of caste in the Indian diaspora. I want to analyze how caste intersects with race, especially in the form of interpersonal relations and racialized boundaries formed by South Asians in the diaspora. I am also a Graduate Student Researcher on the basic needs research project that hopes to address food and housing insecurity for AANHPI students on campus.
