Hours of Operation
Yes, we're still open! The Student Needs Advising Center (SNAC) at the UCen will remain in service during Spring Quarter. We are wearing masks and practicing social distancing, and ask you to do the same if you choose to visit us in person. You can also call us at (805) 893-2786 while we are open.

ask questions, learn about basic needs resources, find out if you are eligible for CalFresh, and get real-time assistance with your CalFresh application. We are available to respond to chats at the following times:

Technology & Access

Chromebook update:
Are you currently enrolled and you don’t have a functioning laptop? We are able to provide a limited number of Chromebooks to students in need! Please fill out this waitlist to have your eligibility reviewed. This is available to both folks within and outside the Santa Barbara county. 

If you are in urgent need of a laptop, or a higher processing laptop for your academic success, please reach out to the Financial Crisis Response Team. Reach them by emailing financialcrisis@sa.ucsb.edu to request assistance for your student, technological basic need.

Registered students also have free access to Microsoft Office Suite. Through the Microsoft Student Advantage Program, actively enrolled students can download and install Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus desktop applications at no cost. View details here.

Financial Assistance
The Financial Crisis Response Team is open and still staying in a 24-48 hour response window. They can help with any financial challenges that may arise for currently enrolled students through grants, vouchers, scholarships, case management, and other forms of aid. Emergency food grants may be available. Email FinancialCrisis@sa.ucsb.edu to get in touch.

CalFresh Assistance
Calfresh & Food Security Peer Advisors
will be in service (see SNAC hours above). Peer advisors will be available to answer questions about resources that are available to students given their specific needs (including questions about applying for CalFresh and maintaining their existing benefits). Food Pantries and Groceries
The AS Food Bank will be reopening Wednesday, September 30. Every Wednesday and Friday from 10am-2pm, the Food Bank will be distributing brown bags to students. Each bag will consist of pantry essentials that are normally carried at the food bank, including pastas, beans, sauce, etc. These bags are modifiable based on Foodbank resource availability, and students' decisions on bag items.
Note: The Food Bank will NOT be open for walk through shopping – only brown bag distribution.

Miramar Food Pantry
 will begin service on September 21, with updated hours (Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4pm - 7pm). Social distancing and proper sanitization will be practiced to ensure guests' safety.

Prepared Meals
Food Not Bombs is still serving free vegan meals (to go) every Sunday at Little Acorn Park and every Wednesday at Children’s Park from 5-6PM. Please visit their Facebook page for updates and volunteer requests. 

The Organic Soup Kitchen is doing soup meal delivery for anyone with underlying health conditions, families and the elderly. Please contact 805-364-2790 or email contact@organicsoupkitchen.org.

The Free Nutrition/Snack Station program will still be operating during Summer Quarter, but now at the Student Needs Advising Center. Please see hours here.

has temporarily postponed meals.

Counseling & Mental Health
Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is still operating in its usual capacity, but all service are now conducted either through Zoom or over the phone. Students can request services through this form, or by calling (805) 893-4411 to schedule an appointment. Among other things, CAPS offers brief therapy, group therapy, urgent appointments, and after-hours counseling.

Undocumented Student Resources
Undocumented Student Services has transitioned to online and remote operations and will continue their regularly scheduled services and programs. Currently, the primary off-campus resources being highlighted are:

Families & Non-Traditional Student Resources
While the Non-Traditional Student Resource Center isn't physically open, virtual coffee hour with an academic advisor is still being hosted, as is one-on-one advising with staff members. The NTSRC also continues to offer childcare grants and priority class registration for student-parents. Note: Non-traditional students include undergraduates over 24 and graduate students over 29 years old; students who are married or in a domestic partnership; and students who are parents or have dependents.

Kids Corner: In light of COVID-19, Isla Vista Youth Project approaches After School Program, and learning via these Fun Educational Activities for your children, while they are home. Understanding that balancing everything at the same time can be difficult, live teacher Zoom Sessions (TK-6th grade), Digital Learning Platforms, Virtual Field Trips, games and more are available on this website! Both in Spanish and English. 

Resources for Graduate Students

The original deadline for graduate students to apply for CARES funding passed (May 22), but the Graduate Division is still trying to provide funds for technical purchases related to COVID

(laptops, peripherals, software, etc.). Graduate students can reach out to Robert Hamm and/or Carlos Nash to seek financial support for technical purchases.

The Financial Crisis Response Team is still issuing emergency grants for graduate students.  As always, these grants are based on a holistic assessment of the student's situation and circumstances. Financial impacts of having to buy technology to work remotely, for instance, would be factored into the student's assessment. Amounts of funding vary; we cannot guarantee that a student will be granted funding or nor can we determine how much they will be granted until they apply. Career Resources
Career Services is maintaining a live feed of career resources related to the COVID-19 pandemic, which includes a list of companies currently hiring, virtual broadcasts, and other sources of information. It's also advised to look over their job search safety tips page to avoid getting scams and suspicious postings.
