Office of the Ombuds (UCSB Community)

The Office of the Ombuds at UC Santa Barbara provides confidential consultation services to faculty, staff, students, parents, or anyone else with a campus-related concern. The ombuds addresses workplace issues, interpersonal conflict, academic concerns, policy questions, and many other problems, whether as a first step, last resort, or at any point along the way. The Office of the Ombuds is dedicated to ensuring fairness throughout the University and regularly makes recommendations for systemic change.

PROFESSIONAL WOMEN'S ASSOCIATION (COMMUNITY)

PWA aims to develop campus-wide awareness of the contributions of women to the mission of UCSB; to provide activities and support to other campus constituencies that contribute to the advancement of women; serve as a networking and communications channel among women, and to provide a forum to influence decisions on campus and community issues.

FLEXWORK (STAFF & FACULTY)

UCSB recognizes the importance of helping employees manage a work/life balance, including providing opportunities for flexible work schedules (e.g., flextime, compressed work week, and telecommuting) and reduced time appointments. UCSB also offers formal programs like Employee-Initiated Reduction in Time and Phased Retirement. Human Resources encourages you to give serious consideration to these requests as many studies have shown employees are often more engaged and satisfied with their employment when they have some control over their work schedules.

UNEMPLOYMENT WORKSHOPS (FACULTY)

Resources for non-senate faculty (lecturers) to help utilize unemployment benefits when they are not appointed, in between quarters, or summer break. The legal basis for eligibility is the fact that lecturers do not have "reasonable assurance" of employment when the quarter or semester begins. GAUCHO MENTOR PROGRAM (UCSB STAFF)

A participants the opportunity for professional development, networking, and skill acquisition through peer-to-peer mentorship. This program will encourage an atmosphere conducive to learning and exploring new ideas, in which participants develop untapped potential, to the benefit of the individuals and the campus as a whole. The mentorship program empowers staff to be active contributors to UCSB’s culture of interdisciplinary collaboration that is responsive to the needs of our diverse and global society.
